In The Balanced Kitchen for Feng Shui Today, Kelly McCloskey explains how thoughtful kitchen design, from stove placement to colour palette and decluttering, can support harmony, nourishment and prosperity in the home.

I wrote this piece for Feng Shui Today to show that the kitchen is far more than a practical workspace. In feng shui, it is one of the most important rooms in the home because it relates to nourishment, family connection and financial wellbeing, so the way it is designed has a real impact on the energy of the people living there.

In the article, I focused on the idea of balance, especially between the fire and water elements that naturally exist in a kitchen through the stove, oven, sink and fridge. I explained how certain layouts can create energetic tension, and how simple, well-considered adjustments can soften that and create a more harmonious environment. I also touched on why stove placement matters so much in feng shui, how colour choices can either support or overstimulate the space, and why cleanliness, intact kitchenware and regular use of the burners all contribute to a kitchen that feels supportive, abundant and alive.

Overall, the article was about designing the kitchen with intention. My aim was to show that when good design and feng shui work together, the kitchen can become more than just functional or beautiful; it can become a space that genuinely nurtures the household and strengthens the overall energy of the home.
