How to Improve Feng Shui in Your Home Kitchen

Is your kitchen killing your family harmony (and your bank account?)

When you’re designing a kitchen, you’re probably scrolling Pinterest for the perfect marble splashback or those sleek, handle-less cabinets (I’m not judging, I’m planning a renovation, I’m right there with you!)  Aesthetics are great, and functionality is a must, but there is a third dimension most people completely ignore: energy.

In my world of Feng Shui, the kitchen is so much more than a place to meal prep and wash lunchboxes. It is the heart of your home. It is the hub of your nourishment, your family connection, and your financial wellbeing. Think about it. The food you cook in this room provides the QI energy for every person in your house. If the energy in the kitchen is off, the energy of your life is off.

So, how do we fix it?

Kitchen sink placement for optimal Feng Shui

Every space is governed by the five elements, but the kitchen is a heavyweight battle between FIRE (your stove) and WATER (your sink.) If these two are sitting directly opposite each other, you’ve got a problem. Fire and water clash. When they face off, that energetic tension creates conflict in the household. I see it all the time; couples who can’t stop bickering and kids who cannot stop fighting often have a stove and sink staring each other down.

Ideally, they should be at an angle. If you can’t move the plumbing, don’t panic! Just introduce a Wood element between them. A timber chopping board, a healthy green plant, even a green tea towel all act as a buffer to balance the energy.

Where to position your kitchen stove for ideal Feng Shui

Your stove placement is the key to your stability. Here is a strict rule: you should not be able to see your stove from the front door. If you can, your wealth is essentially heading straight out the door before it even settles. Also, make sure your stove faces into the home, not outward towards the street. We want to ensure that all family members are happy in the home.

While we are on the topic of the stove, are you only using one or two burners because they're "the good ones"? Each burner represents a source of financial opportunity. By only using one, you’re potentially limiting your income streams. ACTIVATE them. Rotate your cooking. Use every burner regularly to ensure all working members of the house are generating success.

Kitchen colours for best Feng Shui

I know, red is "kitchen-y." But the stove is already the ultimate fire element. Adding red to the walls or decor creates an excess of fire energy. That’s a recipe for high tempers, stress, and even accidents, especially fire related ones. Stick to neutrals. These colours promote stability and actually nourish your soul rather than overstimulating it.

Kitchen Feng Shui and abundance

A greasy, dirty stove isn't just an eyesore; it blocks your family’s income potential. It’s that simple.

While you are cleaning, check your cupboards for chipped plates or cracked mugs. Damaged items hold damaged energy. If it’s broken, discard it.

Surround yourself only with items that are intact and well loved so the energy stays supportive and harmonious.

Feng Shui and kitchen directions

When it comes to the best direction for your kitchen there is no hard and fast rule because every home is a case by case scenario. To get the ultimate auspicious outcome I have to take into account the year your home was built, the facing direction to the exact degree (like 312°) and even the birthdates of the occupants.

This is why employing an accredited Feng Shui Master is so important, they guide you with the precise energies of your specific space.

A Feng Shui kitchen isn't just about where the stove goes (even though that is important!). It’s about creating a sanctuary where conversations flow and prosperity can actually flourish. The energy of your kitchen shapes the energy of your home.

Design it with intention and watch how your life changes.

Frequently asked questions about kitchen Feng Shui

Do red ribbons around taps bring me money?

No. This is one of the biggest Feng Shui fibs around. There is no mention of red ribbons in any of the classical Feng Shui texts.

Can my kitchen help create more harmony in my home?

Yes, it absolutely can. You should always have your stove facing in towards your home as this is the ideal set up for family harmony. It is believed that if the stove faces outwards towards the street, the woman of the home will never feel truly at home in the house and will rarely be there.

I have red appliances in my kitchen, should I remove them?

I recommend that you do. You should pop them under the bench or in the pantry because the stove is already a large powerful fire element. Adding too much of the fire element to the kitchen can cause a literal fire.

Is there anything I can put on my kitchen bench to help my finances?

Place a bowl of fresh fruit or a bunch of fresh flowers on your kitchen bench. Both symbolise abundance. Just make sure you throw them away as soon as they turn sour or die. Off fruit and dead flowers are not good for anyone’s Feng Shui.

Help! Family arguments always breakout at the kitchen bench. How do I stop this?

Place a green plant on your kitchen bench, this will help balance the likely fire/water clash in the kitchen.
